What sports to watch on TV between Christmas and New Year’s

Happy Holidays! Yes, Christmastime is here and there is plenty of cheer to go around. Beyond that, there are plenty of SPORTS to go around as well. From NFL and NBA games on Christmas to college football bowl games and the College Football Playoff, there are plenty of sports to keep you from becoming a grinch while spending time with your family.

Here’s a breakdown of what to watch between Christmas and New Year’s:

Monday, December 23

Christmas week kicks off with a little bit of everything, including two college football bowl games, college hoops and NBA action.

Of course, Monday means Monday Night Football and the Saints will take on the Packers. Get ready for Monday Night Football with Trey Wingo and friends on Pregame PowerUp at 6 p.m. ET on DraftKings Network!

Tuesday, December 24

Christmas Eve is definitely the quietest day of the holiday season, with just one college hoops game and one college football bowl game. Enjoy time with the family … especially since you won’t miss anything in the world of sports.

Wednesday, December 25

Christmas Day has traditionally belonged to the NBA, but the NFL is entering the arena this year with a pair of games on Netflix beginning at 1 p.m. ET with Chiefs-Steelers followed by Ravens-Texans at 4:30 p.m. ET, which will feature a halftime performance from Beyoncé.

Of course, the NBA won’t give up the holiday without a fight and will air five games on the ABC/ESPN/Disney family of networks — including Wemby traveling to MSG, KAT taking on Luka in Dallas, the 76ers shipping up to Boston to take on the champs, LeBron taking on Steph and the Joker heading to the Valley of the Sun to take on KD to close out the day.

Thursday, December 26

The day after Christmas again features a variety of sports, including a couple of bowl games, NBA action and Thursday Night Football featuring the Seahawks at Bears.

Friday, December 27

Friday is heavy on college football, including Navy taking on Oklahoma in the Armed Forces bowl and Syracuse taking on Washington State in the Holiday Bowl.

We’ll also get an NHL doubleheader on ESPN2, with the Blackhawks taking on the Sabres at 7 p.m. ET followed by the Avs taking on the Utah Hockey Club at 9:30 p.m. ET. You can also catch an NBA doubleheader on NBA TV with the Pacers facing the Celtics and the Warriors taking on the Clippers.

Saturday, December 28

Business picks up on Saturday with plenty of action on the college gridiron and hardwood.

We’ve got a pair of baseball stadiums hosting bowl games early in the day as UConn takes on UNC at Fenway Park and Boston College travels to enemy territory to take on Nebraska at Yankee Stadium. We’ve also got the second edition of the Pop-Tart Bowl, which will once again see one edible mascot go down in hungry, delicious glory.

We’ve also got a trio of games in the NFL on the NFL Network, including Chargers-Pats, Broncos-Bengals and Cardinals-Rams.

Sunday, December 29

Of course, Sunday means NFL, but we’ve got a ton of college basketball on tap as well, including the No. 3 Notre Dame women, the No. 6 Florida men, the No. 5 Crimson Tide men and the No. 9 Oregon men’s team.

Falcons at Commanders closes out the night with the Falcons back in control of their playoff destiny and the Stars take on the Blackhawks in an NHL nightcap on ESPN.

Monday, December 30

The final Monday Night Football game of the season takes center stage, as the Lions look to avenge their NFC Championship game loss to the 49ers.

Tuesday, December 31

Close out 2024 with plenty of sports action, including plenty of bowl games, college basketball, the NHL Winter Classic and the first CFP quarterfinal.

On the college gridiron, Alabama takes on Michigan in a matchup that in years past would have been part of the playoff, while South Carolina takes on Illinois in the Citrus Bowl in Orlando. And as mentioned above, Penn State takes on Boise State in the first CFP quarterfinal at the Fiesta Bowl.

Wednesday, January 1

Perhaps the biggest day of the holiday season, at least in terms of importance, will ring in the new year.

We’ll see three CFP quarterfinals — including the Peach Bowl, Rose Bowl and the Sugar Bowl — which will get us one step closer to the eventual first college football champion of the 12-team playoff era.

As of Monday, December 23, Texas is a 14-point favorite on DraftKings Sportsbook over Arizona State in the Peach Bowl, with Ohio State is a 2.5-point favorite over Oregon at the Rose Bowl and Georgia is a 1.5-point favorite over Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl.
