Moritz Wagner is the latest name to join the already-lengthy injury list for the Orlando Magic. The 27-year-old had stood out in recent games after receiving additional time on the floor, but it has now been announced by ESPN’s Shams Charania that Wagner will miss the remainder of the season due to a torn ACL.
Injuries have climbed to the forefront of the Magic’s issues this season. Paolo Banchero was off to an All-NBA level start to the season but then suffered a torn oblique in the fifth game of the season and has been on the sideline since. Franz Wagner then took a massive step forward in his production in the following games but joined his frontcourt partner on the injury report with a torn oblique of his own.
In addition, Jalen Suggs and Gary Harris are each battling injuries, although their issues are not expected to be as severe. Moe Wagner will join his brother and the rest of his Magic teammates with the most severe injury yet and will shift his focus to next season.
This is a huge disappointment for Wagner, who was playing some of the best basketball of his career. He had played in all 30 games this season and was averaging 12.9 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.4 assists across his 18.8 minutes per game.
The Magic still hold a record of 18-12 and sit in fourth place in the Eastern Conference. There is growing hope that Banchero will return to the court soon, but the team will need to continue battling through the shorthanded stretch.
Orlando’s odds to make the playoffs have climbed to -4000 on DraftKings Sportsbook. It holds +1800 odds of winning the Eastern Conference, the sixth-best odds, and +5500 odds of winning the NBA Championship.
Hopefully, Moe Wagner and the rest of the Orlando Magic roster have quick recoveries and are able to return to the floor as soon as possible.
