Allen is now the runaway MVP favorite at DraftKings Sportsbook with odds of -900 heading into Week 16. Allen is having an incredible season and is playing his best football right now. In his past six games, Allen has eight rushing touchdowns and 11 passing touchdowns. The Bills have been involved in two wild games the past two weeks, beating the Lions 48-42 last week and losing to the Rams 44-42 the week prior. The Bills’ defense has been really struggling but that was against two of the league’s top passing offenses. They should put forward a bounce-back performance at home against New England, putting less pressure on Allen.
The Patriots’ defense ranks 31st in defensive EPA/dropback and 29th in defensive dropback success rate. New England has been a bit tougher against the run, ranking 20th in defensive EPA/rush. What makes the Bills’ offense so special is that they can beat you a hundred different ways. If you give up the deep ball, Josh Allen can hit shots downfield. If you can’t stop the run, they have multiple ways to run the ball all over your defense. If you let Allen dink-and-dunk his way down the field, he will do that as well.
The Patriots’ best chance in this game is to defend the ground game, forcing Josh Allen to be a pocket passer. After playing two hectic games the past two weeks, the Bills will want to control this game and make it an easy win against their divisional rivals. Allens should be able to find all of his weapons to pick up small chunks to methodically move the ball down the field. That is why my favorite prop bet on this game is for Allen to go over 20.5 completions. Allen has cleared this number in seven of his past eight games, only going under this number in that snowy game against the 49ers. Allen should get over this number against New England as he continues his MVP season.
