Tucker Kraft ($5,800)
With a few weeks left in the regular season, Tucker Kraft is the runaway favorite to win the Value Play MVP. The Green Bay tight end hasn’t had a spectacular statistical campaign, but his role as a consistent starter in a dangerous passing attack has produced some impressive performances. Kraft showed some flashes as a rookie, but this expanded workload has brought out the best in the 24-year-old.
Kraft is an imposing 6’5″ who has maximized his size after the catch and near the goal line. He’s significantly larger than most opposing defensive backs, which helps him barrel through tacklers and fight for extra yardage. He’s scored seven touchdowns, two of which came in the last four weeks. Even if Kraft struggles to create separation, his frame allows him to fight through contact and be a force on 50-50 balls.
With the aerial attack starting to fire on all cylinders, Kraft’s upside is only more irresistible. He averages 10 fantasy points per game, and at this cheap price tag, that’s more than enough to warrant tossing him in your lineup.
Juwan Johnson ($4,400)
Someone has to make plays for New Orleans. This roster is without all of its talented offensive pieces due to injury. Even with the top pieces on the field, this unit has failed to get out of first gear. After a dominant first two games, the group fell apart, only defeating league bottom feeders with backup quarterbacks. Given the bleak situation, it’s conceivable that someone is bound to step up and string together a solid showing. I’m eyeing wideout-turned-tight end Juwan Johnson, who has had some success at the pro level.
The pass catcher slipped down the depth chart behind Taysom Hill and Foster Moreau, but the injuries on the outside forced him back into action. His increased playing time has led to instant production, tallying at least eight fantasy points in three of the last four outings, finding the end zone twice in that stretch. His blocking is an issue, but he’s a smooth route runner who can climb the ladder and pluck the rock out of the sky. He can do some damage underneath with a condensed play sheet. Johnson should garner enough attention to string together a productive evening.
