The Philadelphia 76ers have had many injuries throughout the season, but Joel Embiid is near a return. He is questionable for tonight’s game against the Charlotte Hornets at 7:00 p.m. ET. Embiid suffered a sinus fracture on December 13 against the Indiana Pacers. On Monday, the Sixers beat the Hornets in Charlotte 121-108.
Sixers PG Tyrese Maxey went off for 40 points, five rebounds, five assists, and six three-pointers against the Hornets on Monday. Here is my favorite prop bet for Tyrese Maxey against the Hornetsย tonight.ย
Tyrese Maxey under 26.5 points (-105)
Yes, Maxey is coming off his second 40-point game of the season, but he hasn’t been consistent lately. Monday was Maxey’s first game over 26.5 points in the last six games. He has only hit this mark three times in the previous 10 games. Maxey is -105 on DraftKings Sportsbook to score 27 or more points tonight.
If Embiid returns tonight, Maxey’s shot attempts will also likely decrease. A big part of why Maxey isn’t as reliable this season as last year is that his efficiency has dropped. Last season, Maxey shot 45 percent from the field and 37.3 percent on three-pointers. This year, he is 41 percent from the field and 31.7 from long range.
Earlier this month, Maxey finished with 21 points in his first game against the Hornets this season. When Maxey attempts 24 or more field goals, he finds success scoring the ball more often. But he has only taken 24 or more field goals three times in the previous 10 games. Until Maxey and the rest of this Sixers team show consistency on a nightly basis, it will be hard to back them. Even after a 40-point performance, it was surprising to see Maxey’s over/under in point increase to 26.5.
