Super Bowl contenders meet on Saturday afternoon when the 13-1 Chiefs host the 9-5 Texans. While Houston might have the AFC South locked up, it’s unclear if they have what it takes to go head-to-head with some of the game’s best squads, including the defending champions. Kansas City opens the contest as 3.5-point favorites, with the over/under set at 42.5 points.

Following an outstanding rookie campaign, C.J. Stroud has had less success in year two. The quarterback is still on pace for nearly 4,000 passing yards, but he’s thrown just 17 touchdowns to 11 interceptions. However, the signal caller’s struggles haven’t impacted his favorite target. Despite missing five games due to a hamstring injury, Nico Collins ranks 22nd in the NFL in receiving yards (849) and second in yards per game (94.3). Those numbers, combined with a team-leading six touchdown catches, makes the fourth-year pro a clear-cut WR1.
Saturday’s game won’t be easy for Houston’s offense. The Chiefs are allowing the tenth-fewest yards per pass attempt (6.5) and the eleventh-fewest passing touchdowns (18). Still, the tandem of Collins and Stroud should connect for some big plays. Since returning in Week 11, the 6’4″ wideout is averaging 5.3 catches and 70.5 receiving yards while scoring three touchdowns. It’s no coincidence that the Michigan alum’s least productive games during that stretch came against the Cowboys and Dolphins. The Texans never trailed in either contest, opting to feed running back Joe Mixon rather than throw the ball downfield.
The Chiefs’ defense has done a great job of slowing down quarterbacks, but they aren’t impenetrable. Over Kansas City’s last six games, an opposing wide receiver has hauled in at least six receptions. On the road against a super team, the Texans may find themselves passing the ball often in the second half. That could lead to plenty of targets going towards Collins, who has shown he can thrive as both a red zone threat and a safety blanket for Stroud.
