The Heat will host the Oklahoma City Thunder tonight on a three-game NBA slate before the weekend. The Thunder have been busy lately, with their third game in four days tonight after a disappointing loss in the Emirates NBA Cup finals and a tight victory against the Orlando Magic last night.
Jimmy Butler is coming off an enormous 35 point, 19 rebound, 10 assist masterpiece in an OT loss to the Detroit Pistons. After just dropping the best game of his season thus far, what can we expect from Butler tonight? His name has been swirling amidst the trade winds as he reportedly seeks a more favorable situation in which to compete for a championship. His trade request does confuse me a little, though. The Miami Heat are notorious overachievers, and their roster isn’t bad. Tyler Herro has made strides in his offensive game and looks poised for a career-year. Bam Adebayo, albeit disappointing overall this season, is trending up recently.
But this is the NBA. Stars do what stars do, and it’s tough to compete with the armory of top tier organizations without joining one yourself. Butler will continue to play his absolute best to boost his trade value before the deadline. He has a tough matchup tonight, but with the Thunder being so active lately, their defenders won’t be well rested to deal with the methodical Butler.

Butler will have a difficult task ahead of him because OKC has answers for him. But tonight is not an ordinary night, and Butler is hot. The Thunder are worn out and are visiting an away stadium. I like the Over here for Butler due to his current form coupled with OKC’s lack of rest.
Threes 0.5 (Over -135 / Under +105): I see value in going Under Butler’s Threes O/U tonight due to the Thunder’s ability to defend the perimeter. They’re second in the league in opponent 3 point % and are allowing just 33.4% this season, closely trailing the Memphis Grizzlies by a decimal point. Butler isn’t a prolific three point shooter by any means, and I don’t see him getting too interested in challenging OKC’s perimeter defense.
