DraftKings Showdown Value Picks
Jake Ferguson ($4,800)
It feels like every mock draft this off-season will have Dallas taking a receiver in the first round. Outside of CeeDee Lamb, this offense sorely lacks playmakers on the outside. Even with a backup in Cooper Rush at the helm, it’s evident the aerial attack is stuck in neutral because no one can win on the outside. Tight end Jake Ferguson is the second most talented pass catcher on the roster but has struggled to make an impact in the box score.
The third-year pro has a reliable pair of hands and impressive wiggle in and out of his breaks. He does a great job of flipping his hips on routes to create separation downfield. Even when he isn’t open, Ferguson can high-point the football and climb the ladder to come down with the catch.
He’s only had one game with less than four targets, which suggests the opportunities have been there; the output has just failed to come to fruition. The ground attack has been so effective the play-action passing game should come to fruition, which favors Ferguson, who does most of his work near the sticks.
Sterling Shepard ($3,400)
There have been glimmers of hope these past few weeks that Sterling Shepard will be ready to take on a more significant role. At 31, with a lengthy injury history, it’s difficult to trust the long-time Giant. He’s a technical wizard with tremendous footwork and the ability to line up outside or in the slot. The skill set of a high-end option is there, but for one reason or another, it’s never materialized.
Shepard had a chance to take over as the team’s WR2 but is currently losing the battle with rookie Jalen McMillan. Shepard had just a single target after generating at least six in the three contests prior. Mike Evans will continue to dominate the receiving share, but there’s enough room for a second weapon to emerge, with Cade Otton unlikely to suit up. With Trevon Diggs done for the season for an already substandard Dallas secondary, this is an ideal spot for Shepard to have his best showing in some time.
