PG/SG Dennis Schroder ($5,700)
Dennis Schroder didn’t make the ideal first impression with his new squad. After getting shipped to Golden State to help alleviate Steph Curry’s on-ball responsibilities, Schroder laid an egg in his debut. The 31-year-old had more turnovers than made shots, finishing with five points in a humiliating defeat on the road against Memphis.
Outside of the recent stinker, Schroeder has been in the midst of an impressive campaign. He’s carried much of the momentum from his stellar summer playing for the German National Team, where he was the primary offensive engine. Schroder might not carry that same responsibility in the NBA, but the fact that he can channel that side when needed makes him such an intriguing asset.
Schroder gets a bounce-back spot against a Minnesota group suffering from an identity crisis. He averages 34 fantasy points a game and is only in this price range because of the uncertainty with him in a new uniform. It’s an ideal time to buy the experienced veteran with a game in a new system under his belt and reap the rewards.
PG Jrue Holiday ($5,100)
What’s wrong with Jrue Holiday? It’s a discouraging question given the time of year, but the Boston X-Factor has regressed across the board in his second season with the club. Holiday is still one of the league’s premier lockdown perimeter defenders, but the offense has gone sideways. The sniper from deep is shooting just 32% from downtown, including a 27% stretch over the last ten days.
It’s difficult to decipher why his prowess from beyond the arc has fallen off a cliff, but it seems more mental than anything at this point. He’s getting plenty of wide-open looks; the ball simply isn’t going into the basket. Even at the tail end of his career, Holiday is too talented for this prolonged slump to continue. After an embarrassing loss Thursday against Chicago, Holiday and the reigning champions will want to enact some revenge and come out of the gates firing.
