The Mavericks have only played one game in the last week, yet the extra rest didn’t translate into a clean injury report. The headliner is Luka Doncic (heel), who will miss Thursday’s contest against the Clippers after missing back-to-back practices. He’ll be joined on the sideline by Jaden Hardy (ankle) and maybe Kyrie Irving ($8,200; shoulder), as the former All-Star is currently listed as questionable.
Playing without Doncic is already a tall task, it would be an astronomical one if Irving also sits. Though it would certainly create a lot of value on Dallas’ remaining roster.
PG Spencer Dinwiddie, Dallas Mavericks vs. Los Angeles Clippers, $3,700
Doncic last missed a game on November 30. Without his services, the Mavericks were still able to pull out a 106-94 victory over the Jazz, with the aforementioned Irving leading the team in both points (30) and usage rate (34.3%). The other guard to play a massive role that evening? Spencer Dinwiddie. The veteran ranked first among Dallas reserves with 30.6 minutes logged. He also dished out a season-high 10 assists and finished with 30.5 FPTS.
That win versus Utah was actually the fifth straight contest that Doncic had missed. In total, across the whole five-game run, Dinwiddie averaged 30.9 FPTS, with a ceiling of 41.25 FPTS. Dinwiddie is an established commodity in the NBA. He’ll clearly have elevated opportunity on Thursday with Doncic unavailable and his role might expand further if Irving is ruled out, too. Worst case, you’re probably looking at an asset that will bring back 7x or 8x value for your lineups.
