LaMelo Ball is having a career year and is poised to make his second All-Star appearance at his current rate. He’s hitting career marks in several statistical categories: points, 2P%, 3PM, and FG attempts. He’s recording modest numbers (by his standards) in rebounds, assists, and steals, but making up for all of this by shouldering the majority of the Hornets’ offensive load. He’s not shooting efficiently, sitting at just 42.7% FG, but Ball’s never been one who’s shy about scoring.
Ball is leading the league in field goal attempts at 24.4. In fact, the difference between Ball and second-place Luka Doncic (21.9) is larger than the difference between Doncic and 10th place Cade Cunningham (19.7). And I don’t think this is necessarily good for his team because we rarely see the shot-chucker archetype of player effect his team’s chances at winning, outside very few historically dominant offensive forces (Kobe Bryant, James Harden, Tracy McGrady, etc.).
Regardless, after returning from a two-week absence from calf soreness, Ball posted a modest but effective 15 point, five rebound, and 11 assist line against the Philadelphia 76ers alongside four steals. I’m expecting Ball to continue shooting it on massive volume, and I don’t blame him. Especially in light of Brandon Miller’s recent injury, there just aren’t any other offensive solutions for the Hornets this season.

PTS + REB + AST 39.5 (Over -110 / Under -120): The Wizards rank dead last in points conceded and rebounds conceded. They rank sixth last in assists conceded. If we combine these metrics with Ball’s season averages of 30.2 PPG, 5.4 RPG, and 7.2 APG (42.8 PTS+REB+AST), then the only thing stopping Ball from hitting this O/U is his possible minutes restriction tonight. It’s also possible that Ball will get an increased workload and see closer to 30 minutes tonight, and sit the back to back game tomorrow. Either way, there’s not a better team to bet the Over against for this prop, as the Wizards are conceding all of these stats at league-worst rates to one of the most talented guards in the NBA who excels at stuffing the stat sheet on a nightly basis.
