Jalen Hurts is having another great season for the Eagles. Philadelphia is 11-2 atop the NFC East, chasing the Lions for that No. 1 seed in the NFC. This is a massive game in the battle for Pennsylvania as the 10-3 Steelers also need to keep winning to stay atop the AFC North. Hurts is in the top eight of the odds to win the NFL MVP. He ranks fifth in the league in total touchdowns between his passing and rushing scores.
The Steelers have an elite defense, ranking fifth in the league in defensive EPA/play. However, they have been much tougher against the pass than the run. The defense ranks third in EPA/dropback but 12th in EPA/rush and 18th in rushing success rate. This should be a run-heavy approach by the Eagles between Hurts and Saquon Barkley. The Philadelphia offense ranks first in EPA/rush and fourth in rushing success rate. It has a big edge on the ground and should take advantage of it in this game.
My favorite prop bet for this game is for Jalen Hurts to score a touchdown. Hurts has 13 rushing touchdowns in 13 games this season, the most of any quarterback. Hurts is averaging over 10 carries per game. Of course, the “tush push” is his best chance to get in the end zone but Hurts can be a runner out of the shotgun formation as well. Hurts has scored at least one touchdown in seven of his past eight games. The Eagles have an advantage on the ground in this game and they should utilize it to keep Hurts’ touchdown streak going.
