UPDATE: Hall ($6,400) is officially active for Sunday’s matchup with the Jaguars.
During his Friday press conference with the media, interim HC Jeff Ulbrich said that things are trending in the right direction for Breece Hall ($6,400) to play in Sunday’s game against the Jaguars. However, he is officially listed as questionable for Week 15.
Hall had an injury scare with the same knee that has his repaired ACL-tear from 2022, so it’s a little surprising he’s got a shot to play despite the limited practice time this week.
Analysis
This would, obviously, be a huge boon to a Jets offense that currently ranks 28th in the NFL in offensive rushing DVOA. That’s miserable, and Hall’s production thus far has more-or-less been a reflection of that figure. He’s currently PPR fantasy’s RB15, and many season-long fantasy managers drafted Hall thinking he’d be on the verge of a top-five RB season. He’s averaging 15.8ppg. Serviceable, but certainly, by no means, elite.
It sounds like things are shaping up for Hall, who didn’t practice Thursday with his lingering knee injury, what with all this Friday news.
Having said that, I’m not entirely sure, in the first round of fantasy football playoffs or in DFS contests, that I’d be comfortable running out Hall even if he’s active. The missed practice on Thursday of it all really suggests to me that there might be a certain degree of a snap count, or at the very least a hesitation to run him too hard because of the Jets’ depth. Braelon Allen ($5,400) and Isaiah Davis ($5,000) have done nothing, really, but impress at above-replacement-level assets for Aaron Rodgers out of the backfield.
Hall has logged five games in which he’s seen 12-or-fewer rushes, and I’d expect that to be a decent approximation of his rush count on Sunday, especially with Davis’s emergence. And I certainly would expect Hall to see fewer than his 4.5 receptions per game.
Bottom Line
While it sounds like Breece Hall is at least planning to put his pads on for the Jets’ game against the Jaguars in Week 15, I’m likely searching elsewhere for running back production. I don’t think Hall’s ceiling could possibly be very high, what with the Jets’ near-league-worst rushing efficiency and a knee injury that just smacks of something-not-quite-totally-healthy-yet.
Out of the three Jets backs, I think Braelon Allen represents the best DFS salary value.
