Puka Nacua missed a big chunk of the season with an injury but he has been on fire the past few weeks since making his full return. Nacua just had his best game of the season last week against Buffalo, making 12 grabs for 162 yards and two scores. Nacua has 98 or more receiving yards in four of his past five games. He is averaging 8.4 catches per game over that same stretch and has four total touchdowns in those five games as well. This is a massive game for the Rams in a divisional race where all four teams are still alive, including the 49ers.
The 49ers have had a disaster of a season. They have dealt with major injuries all season, including to Brock Purdy and Christian McCaffrey, the latter of whom will be out for the rest of the season. That being said, they are still alive in the NFC West and wild-card race but really need to win this game. The 49ers’ defense has perennially been one of the best in the league, but they have trended down a bit this season. They rank 12th in defensive EPA/dropback and 16th in defensive dropback success rate. This isn’t bad by any means but they are facing a Rams offense that over the past five weeks is seventh in EPA/dropback and fifth in dropback success rate.
The return of Puka Nacua has been the spark this Rams offense has needed. They are comfortably a top-10 passing offense in the league at the moment and are arguably top-five. This should be a battle against the 49ers and they will need a big game from Nacua. Therefore, I am betting on Nacua to go over his receiving prop of 88.5 yards in this game. He has been on a tear the past few weeks and with the threat of Cooper Kupp on the other side, Nacua doesn’t get as much attention from opposing defenses a receiver of his caliber should. He should have another huge game on Thursday Night Football.
