The 12-10 Heat will welcome in the 7-18 Raptors tonight in what will probably be a one-sided affair. The Raptors are missing Scottie Barnes, while the Heat are fully healthy; at least, physically. Jimmy Butler is rumored to be on the trade block, as my colleague Ryan Wohl outlines in his article here. The Heat are officially listening to offers, and if Butler’s request to be moved is true, then Butler is incentivized to market what he can do.
Butler has one more season remaining on his hefty three year $146M salary, and he’ll need to convince teams that he’s worth both the salary space and the assets required to obtain him. He’ll need big games from here on out, and the Raptors should be a favorable catalyst for Jimmy to start turning up.

Points 19.5 (Over -110 / Under -125): The Raptors, sans Scottie Barnes, should not provide much resistance tonight as the 22nd ranked defense in the league. Butler’s numbers have been decent this season, averaging 19 PPG, 5.4 RPG, and 4.8 APG. Butler’s minutes have come down a bit and that’s resulted in a slight drop-off from his stats last season, but there’s nothing we need to be worried about just yet outside his usage. His usage is sitting at 21.7%, the lowest mark he’s held since his 2014-15 season in Chicago, a season in which he won Most Improved Player and earned a trip to the All-Star game. He’s been deferring a bit to Tyler Herro, who’s poised to get his first real shot at an All-Star selection as he’s stepped up with a 24.2 PPG and appears in full command of the Heat offense.
Over his past five games, Butler’s been averaging 20.4 PPG in his last five contests and I’d happily bet the Over tonight seeing the quality of defense in front of him. Additionally, Butler’s aforementioned situation would push me towards optimism about his output tonight.
Assists 4.5 (Over -115 / Under -115): Butler’s averaged more than 4.5 assists per game for the last six seasons, including this one. If you think Butler will defer more to his teammates as he has all season, then going Over makes sense. If you think Butler will start turning up a bit to boost his trade value, and thus take more shots himself, I can see going Under.
