The Magic played their first game of the season without both Paolo Banchero (oblique) and Franz Wagner (oblique) on Sunday and Bitadze stepped up with his team down their top two players. In 30.4 minutes, the center finished with 21 points, 16 rebounds and four assists in the win over the Suns.
Banchero and Wagner will remain unavailable Tuesday and, with these two players missing, the Magic are desperate for scoring options outside of Jalen Suggs. Bitadze is one of their best remaining options and with Banchero and Wagner off the floor this season, Bitadze has been the primary beneficiary, with his usage rising a team-high 6.2 percentage points to 21.9%. Additionally, Bitadze’s assist and rebound rates rise 7.2 and 5.5 percentage points, respectively, which are also both team-highs.
Bitadze is averaging 15.6 points, 13.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists per 30 minutes with Banchero and Bitadze off the floor this season, which equates to 32.3 PRA. 30 minutes is a fair projection for the big man tonight and that number could end up being even higher if Jonathan Isaac (hamstring) doesn’t play through his questionable tag and joins Banchero and Wagner on the sidelines.
This 21.5 PRA line for Bitadze will certainly move up if Isaac is ruled out and attacking this over quickly is smart, as Isaac is a very fragile player and him being inactive wouldn’t be a surprise in any way.
