Fantasy Basketball Value Picks: Top DraftKings NBA DFS Bargain Plays for December 9

By: Garion Thorne

There’s only one NBA game on the docket for Monday night and it’s in Canada. So, with the exchange rate, it’s actually more like 0.7 games. Kind of odd when you think about it like that, right?

No matter. We’ll still find some value. Let’s dive in.

PF/C Precious Achiuwa, New York Knicks at Toronto Raptors, $4,800

The big domino on this slate is the status of Karl-Anthony Towns ($11,200; knee), who is questionable to suit up after missing Saturday’s loss to the Pistons. With Towns unavailable, Jericho Sims ($1,600) drew the start, but it was Achiuwa that ended up logging a majority of the minutes at the five. In just his second game back from injury — there’s no “ramp-up” period with Tom Thibodeau — Achiuwa registered six points, 10 rebounds, four assists and 28.5 FPTS in 27.7 minutes of action. Heck, even if Towns does return against Toronto, I still think Achiuwa could see over 20 minutes of playing time. With his ability to generate around a fantasy point per minute, that’s more than enough ceiling to be viable on a Showdown slate.

SG Ja’Kobe Walter, Toronto Raptors vs. New York Knicks, $3,400

The Raptors are starting to get healthy. Gradey Dick ($6,400) is back and so is Kelly Olynyk ($6,600). Heck, it doesn’t seem like Bruce Brown (knee) is all that far away, either. Because of this, Darko Rajakovic has had to start making decisions about Toronto’s rotation. We saw the results in Saturday’s loss to the Mavericks. Jamal Shead ($1,000) and Chris Boucher ($3,600) were DNP-CDs, while Jamison Battle ($1,200) logged just 4.3 minutes. An asset that didn’t see his role diminish? Ja’Kobe Walter. The Raptors first-round pick played 20.8 minutes off the bench, finishing with eight points on 10 field goal attempts. In fact, Walter’s 22.3% usage rate led all reserves and was fourth on the team overall. He’s got the green light and, in the five contests he’s seen at least 20 minutes, he’s averaging 20.7 FPTS. Davion Mitchell ($2,800) is another name to keep an eye on, though he is allergic to scoring, which obviously hurts his fantasy upside.
