PG/SG Cole Anthony ($4,200)
With budding star Franz Wagner sidelined indefinitely with a torn oblique, the already shaky Orlando offense desperately needs to find a spark. Cole Anthony was the odd man out of the rotation to start the campaign, seeing his minutes slashed in half from last year. Anthony is a ball-dominant guard who has never seen a shot he doesn’t like. He hasn’t fit into the franchise’s new defense-first identity and was a popular potential trade deadline asset. With Wagner going down, the club is so scarce of scoring threats that they’ve had to integrate Anthony back into the fold.
Anthony is coming off playing a season-high 29 minutes in the recent win against Phoenix. The former UNC star dropped 14 points and looked confident in his expanded role. Anthony’s light will continue to be green as he tries to help carry the burden of this attack. He projects having a great outing against a Milwaukee backcourt that continues to be a mess defensively.
SG/SG Gary Trent Jr. ($3,800)
The Bucks got a steal when they inked Gary Trent Jr. to a veteran-minimum contract this past July. The veteran wing spent the last four years in Toronto playing inefficient hoops for a team stuck in lottery purgatory. Trent Jr. gets plenty of credit for his “bag” and limitless ways to create space to get to the cup or rise up for a jumper. He was able to linger in the background for a squad with no expectations but now is tasked with being an elite glue piece for an aging contender.
Trent Jr. has been amid a solid stretch, scoring 10 or more points in four straight games. He’s caught fire from downtown, making at least a trio in triples throughout that span, chipping in some moderate work on the glass. His DFS ceiling is unreliable playing alongside Damian Lillard and Giannis Antetokounmpo, but the occasional scoring outburst is always in play. In a critical NBA Cup game, I like Trent Jr. to be involved early and leave his mark.
