De’Von Achane has had a great season for the Dolphins. There has been an issue (or non-issue depending on how you look at it) of too much talent in the Dolphins’ backfield. Achane, Raheem Mostert and Jaylen Wright have all split carries this season and you even get the occasional Tyreek Hill or Alec Ingold carry. However, in recent weeks, Achane has emerged as the clear lead running back for the Dolphins. Achane has seen the most carries for Miami, but even more notably, has had a ton of action in the passing game.
Since Tua Tagovailoa’s return from injury, Achane is averaging 5.6 receptions per game and on the season, he is averaging over 35 receiving yards per game. His 429 receiving yards are the second-most among all running backs this season and his six receiving touchdowns are the most among running backs. In recent weeks, Achane has been more of a receiver than he is a running back even. Against the Packers last week, Achane had just 14 rushing yards but had 56 receiving yards. Over the past two weeks, Achane has scored three touchdowns and they were all through the air.
For these reasons, my favorite prop bet for this game against the Jets is for Achane to go over his longest reception prop of 13.5 yards. The Jets’ defense has been a disappointment all season, but particularly in recent weeks. The pass defense has gotten worse as the season has gone on and since Week 9, the Jets rank 28th in defensive EPA/dropback. The Jets are also expected to be without Sauce Gardner for this game, only making them even more vulnerable on defense. Achane has gone over this number in four of his past six games and should be able to do so again versus a Jets defense that has had major tackling issues this year.
