I’m not here to tell you this is a good spot for the Panthers on Sunday afternoon in Philadelphia. But with the Eagles favored by nearly two touchdowns, if the game script is anywhere close to what the sportsbook is projecting, Carolina is going to have to look to move the ball through the air. Philly has been tremendous in the secondary in recent weeks, but at some number the props are going to be set too low, and I feel that’s the case here with Xavier Legette.
Since trading away Dionte Johnson and moving back to Bryce Young at quarterback, Legette has clearly seen his role expand. Over the past five games with Young under center, Legette is averaging 43.2 yards on 6.2 targets per game. He’s 3-2 to the over if we set the number at 35.5, but the two misses landed on 34 and 33 yards.
Legette has cashed the over in three consecutive weeks, going for 40 yards on four targets, 56 yards on six targets, and then 53 yards on eight targets just last week. Despite the negative matchup, the game script should be a positive here, and I expect the increased volume to continue to Legette. At a modest number, I’ll back him to go over his receiving yardage.
