Another week, another Bucky Irving rushing over. I’ve been playing Irving on nearly a weekly basis, and he’s been coming through for us, and a matchup at home as roughly a touchdown favorite over the Raiders won’t scare me off. Vegas has been decent defending the run overall this season, although it does slip to 118 rushing yards allowed per game on the road.
This is more about Irving, though, who is a bet on player right now unless he finds himself in just a terrible matchup. The Bucs have been slow to ease Irving in despite his fantastic start to his career, but have been more willing to feed him in recent weeks. The rookie is now averaging 5.5 yards per carry, and frankly, has been one of the best running backs in the NFL. However, up until three weeks ago, Tampa had only allowed Irving to carry the ball 10 or more times twice this season.
That chanced three weeks ago against the 49ers, and Irving now has 50 carriers over his last three games. That includes a whopping 25-152-1 line last week against Carolina. While the Panthers are bottom of the barrel in run defense, it’s going to be difficult for Tampa to ignore its best option in the backfield here when it comes to volume. From a game script perspective, the Bucs being priced as roughly a touchdown favorite at home should be a positive for Irving, who was the hammer in the fourth quarter last week against Carolina.
Look for more volume and continued success here from Irving, who I’ll continue to ride on the rushing prop.
