While Jared McCain and Dalton Knecht have dominated Rookie of the Year conversations to this point, Stephon Castle has played his way into the mix. The fourth overall pick has started 15 of 22 games and is averaging 11.5 points, 3.8 assists and 2.5 rebounds across 27 minutes per game.
Assuming Wembanyama is unable to suit up, this will mark the fifth game this season that Castle has played without the franchise centerpiece. Castle averaged 13.0 points, 5.8 assists and 3.0 rebounds in the four games without Wembanyama. He has made an impact in replacing Wembanyama’s 23.5 points, 10.4 rebounds and 3.8 assists.
Castle’s props are listed at over/under 14.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 1.5 made three-pointers and 22.5 combined points, rebounds and assists.
Look for Castle to take on more rebounding and playmaking responsibility if Wembanyama is out. There was plenty of buzz leading up to the draft about Castle’s desire to be a point guard. While Chris Paul will still be suiting up and is still playing at a fairly high level, expect some more on-ball freedom for Castle.
Castle has recorded over 7.5 combined rebounds and assists in three of the four games without Wembanyama this year. This includes last night’s game in which he finished with 12 points, six assists and two rebounds. He also has reached in five additional times while playing alongside the superstar.
It may not be the most exciting bet but count on Castle to make an impact on the glass and facilitate the basketball. He is a winning basketball player who can impact the game in a variety of ways which will be evident tonight. Outside of Domantas Sabonis, the Kings are not a great rebounding team and rank 15th in the NBA in this category. Count on Castle to eclipse 7.5 combined rebounds and assists tonight to continue building on his strong rookie season.
