Paul George has had far from an ideal start to his Philadelphia tenure. The prized offseason addition has played just 10 of a possible 20 games so far this season and logged limited minutes in several of the games he has been available.
George is averaging 15.9 points, 5.3 rebounds and 5.1 assists in 29.5 minutes per game. This is quite the drop from his career averages of 20.7 points, 6.3 rebounds and 3.7 assists in 33.6 minutes per game.
The nine-time All-Star seemed to finally find his footing in Tuesday’s game against the Hornets. He finished with 29 points, eight assists and two rebounds in the victory. George was then held out of Wednesday’s game due to injury management.
Beyond just the statistical output, George finally looked like the healthy version of himself even while sporting a massive brace on his knee. The Sixers desperately need more offensive creation and this is the role George is set to fill. He has had great success driving the paint and kicking to shooters which is seen in his assist growth with the Sixers. Philadelphia ranks dead last in the NBA in assists and 29th in rebounding, so the need is there.
Look for George to pick up where he left off and put forth another strong performance tonight. Philadelphia has quite a hole to dig out of after its 5-15 start in which Joel Embiid, George and Tyrese Maxey have shared the floor for six total minutes.
While George has only eclipsed 28.5 points, rebounds and assists in three of the 10 games he has played, this has had much more to do with his injury limitations than lack of production. Now that he is fully healthy, look for him to be back to his usual self.
Expect the six-time All-NBA forward to be in attack mode from the opening whistle as desperation has already started to hit the Sixers. Look for him to make an impact in each area of the stat sheet and record over 28.5 combined points, rebounds and assists against a stingy Magic defense.
