DraftKings Value Picks
Quentin Johnston ($5,800)
Quentin Johnston is one of the most frustrating players in the NFL. The former first-round pick was a superstar at TCU, dominating collegiate defensive backs and helping propel his school to a National Title Game appearance. Despite plenty of encouraging flashes, the 23-year-old has disappointed since turning pro.
Despite his massive frame, Johnston has struggled to do damage outside the hashes working downfield. He had some success in college, climbing the ladder and snagging jump balls, but that’s never what made him special. He’s best with the rock in his hands, moving laterally and doing most of his damage after the catch. Johnson is a tremendous athlete who is tough to bring down and can shed tackles while fighting for extra yards.
Drops have been his biggest detriment, only recording five on the campaign, but most of them coming at crucial junctures. He fails to consistently create separation against better corners and seems to be invisible in key moments.
LA is desperate for someone besides rookie Ladd McConkey to step up in this receiver room. Johnston has the tools and traits to succeed but hasn’t put them together. Johnston will continue to get opportunities as the club starts to air out the rock more often. He’s already had two 20+ point fantasy outings on the campaign and can have a productive evening against anyone.
Noah Gray ($4,400)
Another week, another value tight end. That label almost does Noah Gray a disservice, as he is slowly emerging as the third pass-catching option on this squad. The fourth-year pro has seen most of his work in 12 personnel as a blocker throughout his tenure, but has proven to be a viable security blanket underneath.
The uptick in pass attempts has opened the door for someone like Gray to find his footing in this offense. Gray has three straight games with at least four targets, finding the end zone four times during that span. Even when he failed to cross the goal line against Las Vegas last week, he still chipped in 9.8 fantasy points and was a factor in the passing attack.
Gray had four receptions for 40 yards in the earlier meeting, but has carved out a more prominent role in this system. He’s in the midst of the most impressive stretch of his career, and his cheap value makes him worth taking a flier on.
