Sam LaPorta is coming off one of his best performances of the season. On Thanksgiving day, the tight end hauled in three of his six targets for only six yards, but two of those grabs went for touchdowns vs. the Bears (15.6 FPTS).
LaPorta has now found the paydirt five times this season and he has obtained at least six targets in four of his last five games, which is a huge improvement after LaPorta’s quiet start to the season. During this five-game stretch, the tight end has ranked second on the Lions in target share (21.4%) and he has garnered seven redzone targets. Prior to this, LaPorta had seen a underwhelming 9.8% target share and only two redzone targets in his first six games of the season.
Detroit has made a clear effort to get LaPorta more involved. Up next is an appealing matchup vs. the Packers on Thursday Night Football for Week 14. Green Bay uses zone coverage at the sixth-highest rate this season and as a result, they are giving up the fifth-most receptions to tight ends (72).
76% of LaPorta’s career receiving yards have come against zone coverage, and he is a top-10 tight end option for Week 14 in this great spot.
