Karl-Anthony Towns has had a great start to his Knicks career. The Knicks are 4th in the Eastern Conference, won their group in the NBA Cup and Towns is putting up big numbers almost every night. Towns ranks 3rd in the NBA in points + rebounds per game, behind only Giannis Antetokounmpo and Nikola Jokic. KAT and Jalen Brunson have turned into the dynamic duo that Knicks fans hoped they would with Brunson averaging 25.2 PPG and KAT averaging 25.1 PPG.
That being said, the rebounding is where KAT has made a significant jump since coming to the Knicks. Towns has always been a great scorer but there were concerns about his defense, rebounding and general toughness to play in a Tom Thibodeau system that emphasizes all of those traits. So far, Towns has lived up to what his coach has asked of him. For a 7-footer, KAT seems to prefer playing on the perimeter and being a scorer before anything else. Last season, he ranked 22nd in the NBA with 8.3 rebounds per game. So far this season, Towns leads the NBA in rebounding with 13.1 rebounds per game.
For that reason, my favorite prop bet for this game is Towns to go over 12.5 rebounds. Not only is he averaging 13.1 rebounds per game during the season, but he has also been improving as a rebounder as the season goes on. Towns has had 14 or more rebounds in four of his past five games and is averaging 17.0 rebounds per game in December so far.
This is also a good matchup against the Hornets. Hornets center Mark Williams was only able to play nine minutes in his first game of the season on Tuesday against the 76ers and should be on a heavy minutes restriction again in this game. With Miles Bridges out and Williams restricted, this team is thin in their frontcourt. KAT is averaging 2.9 offensive rebounds per game and the Hornets rank 22nd in defensive rebounds per game. Towns should be able to crash the boards at both ends and get over 12.5 rebounds.
