DJ Moore ($6,100; quad) missed his second practice in a row Thursday, putting him in serious jeopardy of missing Sunday’s matchup with the 49ers. Moore has handled a 25% target share this season and he just racked up a season-high 16 targets last week. There will clearly be plenty of targets to go around if Moore is inactive and while Keenan Allen ($5,600; ankle) will likely be the primary beneficiary in that situation, Odunze ($5,000) should also see more usage.
The rookie has seen a healthy 19% target share this season, and that number would more than likely grow if Moore is missing from the equation. The veteran is leading Chicago with 15 redzone targets, and Oduzne could specifically see more looks in scoring territory if Moore is inactive.
The problem is that Odunze has been lackluster with a 53.9% catch rate this season and he is in a tough road matchup against a San Francisco defense that is giving up the eighth-fewest yards per pass this season (6.3). Additionally, the 49ers are allowing the fifth-fewest receptions (125) and sixth-fewest receiving yards to receivers (1,550).
While Odunze will certainly be a better option than usual if Moore sits and he will be a viable WR3/FLEX play for Week 14, Odunze by no means is a must-play in this ugly spot vs. San Francisco. There is a decent chance you have a better option to consider on your bench.
