Josh Jacobs continues to put up huge numbers every week for the Packers. Jacobs ranks 3rd in the NFL in rushing yards, behind only Derrick Henry and Saquon Barkley. Jacobs has also been playing some of his best football of the season as of late, scoring seven touchdowns in his past five games. Last time out against the Lions, Jacobs had a really nice game, running for 95 yards on just 13 carries. That 7.3 yards per carry is Jacobs’ highest YPC total in any game this season.
The Packers have one of the best offenses in the NFL, ranking 8th in EPA/play and 9th in EPA/rush. However, the Lions’ defense is a match for the elite Packers offense. Detroit has the best defense in the league by EPA/play and they rank 4th in defensive EPA/rush. That being said, the Lions’ rush defense numbers are a bit inflated because of how most of their games go. The Lions have only lost one game all season and they have dominated in many of their games. That leads to opposing offenses needing to be pass-heavy to play catch-up against the Lions’ elite offense. The Packers are one of the better teams the Lions have faced all season and the Packers should be able to keep a more balanced game script on offense. That should give Jacobs more touches than most running backs get against Detroit.
My favorite prop bet on Josh Jacobs is for him to go over 90.5 rushing + receiving yards. Jacobs went over this number with just his rushing yards against the Lions the last time these teams faced. Jacobs has cleared this rushing + receiving number in six straight games heading into this matchup and in 9 out of 12 games overall this season. Jacobs has really emerged as a receiver with 58 yards and 74 yards in two of his past three games, his two highest receiving yards marks of the season. If he can keep up that type of receiving production and break a couple of big runs, he should clear this number against the Lions on Thursday night.
