On the season, Romeo Doubs leads the Packers in snaps with 512, despite missing two games. He’s also second in targets with 53. He suffered a concussion in Week 12 and missed last week’s contest. He has officially been ruled out for Thursday’s game against the Detroit Lions.
Jayden Reed leads the team in targets with 58, so he will elevate to top dog status, but Dontayvion Wicks and Christian Watson will also climb up the totem pole.
These teams met in Week 9, with the Packers losing 24-14 at home. Reed led the way with five receptions on six targets for 113 yards. Watson led the team with seven targets but caught only three for 37 yards. Wicks garnered three targets and did not catch any.
Wicks has 51 targets on the season compared to 38 for Watson. Watson was limited early in the season, though, dealing with an ankle injury. Since Week 8, Watson has received 24 targets to 13 for Wicks.
Wicks is 6-foot-1, 212 pounds and runs a 4.62 40. He has good agility and burst scores, and should be a good possession receiver. There used to be chatter about how he would be the next Davante Adams. Unfortunately, the dude can’t catch. The 17.6% drop rate is the highest in the league by a wide margin. There are only three other players with at least a 10% drop rate and teammate Doubs is second at 13.2%.
Watson is 6-foot-4, 208 pounds and runs a 4.36 40. He has a drop rate of 2.6% and has produced an EPA per target of 0.51, which is 22nd in the NFL. Wicks is at -0.32.
This game has the highest total of the week at 51.5 with a spread of only 3 points. Both teams are implied to score at least three touchdowns. Jordan Love threw 39 times in the first meeting with the Lions and he will likely approach or exceed 40 pass attempts in this one.
Between Wicks and Watson, give me the guy who can take it to the house on any play and the one who can actually catch the ball. That seems pretty important.
