Jonathon Brooks and Blake Corum are two appealing running backs to stash on your bench in your season-long leagues. If you had to choose one, Brooks is more worthy of a roster spot.
After seeing little work in his season debut two weeks ago, Brooks rushed the ball six times for 18 yards and caught all three of his targets for 23 yards this past Sunday vs. the Buccaneers (7.1 FPTS). Brooks handled 33.3% of the Panthers’ running back carries in this tilt. Two of his six rushes notably came in the redzone. Overall, the rookie logged 21.4% of the snaps, while Chubba Hubbard saw 78.5% of the snaps.
Brooks’ snap and rush share have increased in each of his two games. These numbers should continue to grow in every game going forward. At No.46 overall, Brooks was the highest back drafted in the 2024 NFL draft, and given this high selection, Carolina clearly views the former Texas Longhorn as their franchise running back of the future. Brooks produced 1,425 scrimmage yards and 11 touchdowns during his final season at Texas.
While it may take a few more games, the outstanding prospect should finish this season as Panthers’ lead rusher and ahead of Hubbard on the depth chart.
As for Corum, he is Kyren Williams’ direct back in Los Angeles. Corum saw his biggest workload of the season this past Sunday, with eight carries and a season-high 32% snap share. That being said, Williams still saw both redzone rushes for the Rams and handled 65.2% of the team’s running back carries.
While it was encouraging to see Corum get more involved this past week, Williams is still Los Angeles’ lead back. He would have to suffer an injury for Corum to see a significant role. On the other hand, Brooks’ role has been increasing each week, and he has a direct path to likely becoming his team’s top option out of the backfield.
Brooks is the better player to target off waivers than Corum, but again, both are enticing pick-ups. If you have the roster space, picking up both backs is a great move if possible.
