The final month of 2024 has crept up on us all like the Rockets in the West. After a historic night in which the top two seeds in both conferences battled, things have shaken out in an odd way thus far in this 2024-25 NBA season. The Grizzlies have gotten healthy and predictably regained some form; they currently sit in the third seed in the West while the Warriors start to lose steam. The Cavaliers won a nail-biter against the Celtics and stay atop the East with the Celtics and Magic (wow!) trailing close behind.
But while some things this season are new, others are not. LaMelo Ball, unfortunately, suffered his annual injury, sidelining him for at least two weeks while the Hornets wait for his calf to heal. The Wizards went win-less in November, which marks just the 16th time an NBA team has done so. Nikola Jokic still looks like the best basketball player on Earth. We’re shooting the Three Lists of Threes today for your weekly dose of fantasy tips: Buy-lows, sell-highs, and streams.
Here are some sell-highs we can consider.
Sell ’em
Payton Pritchard, PG, Boston Celtics
Pritchard has been arguably the 6MOTY front-runner this season, averaging 16 PPG off the bench while shooting a career-high 48.2% from the field. Over his last three games, he’s been averaging 24.4 PPG and has cashed 16 triples across these games. While you likely got Pritchard very cheap, it’s still worth considering what you can get if you sell him. I think he’s worth selling to someone who’s willing to give up a top-100 player for him. While he is very good, I’m bearish on his outlook on this Celtics team that’s just loaded with talent. Pritchard’s role is well-defined and unlikely to go anywhere, but his ceiling seems capped.
Franz Wagner, SF/PF, Orlando Magic
On the topic of ceilings, here’s a guy whose ceiling we don’t know yet. It’s all looking very impressive; Wagner has been a monster since Paolo Banchero went down, averaging 23.3 PPG, 5.7 RPG, and 5.6 APG while keeping the Magic more than afloat: they’re currently the third seed in the East. The Magic front office have to be simply delighted about the level of play they’re getting from Wagner, and likely, so are you if you have Wagner rostered.
But Banchero will return, and Wagner will cool off. It’s a tale as old as time in fantasy sports. So while you do lose a bit of value flipping Wagner for a top-30 guy (and I do think top-30 is doable given Wagner’s current form), you will regain that value later when Banchero returns.
Malik Monk, SG, Sacramento Kings
Monk is now locked in for the foreseeable future as a start on the Kings. This bodes well for his fantasy value, but not as well as you’d think. Monk has always been an excellent source of threes and points. Over his last three games, he’s averaged 25 PPG alongside 5.3 triples per game, including a monster game in which he drilled eight shots from deep. This type of shooting isn’t going to stick, even if Monk’s minutes are. I’d be very curious to see who’s willing to bite given how hot Monk has been.
