In the absence of Paolo Banchero, Franz Wagner has blossomed into one of the most dynamic offensive engines in the league. The 23-year-old flashed this high-level floor raiser with Germany on the international circuit but could never translate it to the NBA consistently. Wagner pairs his dazzling creation with a sweet stroke. He does a tremendous job supplementing his passing by navigating off screens at the top of the key and navigating around defenders to hunt for high-quality shots.
Wagner ended last year with a disaster from downtown, which put Orlando in a tailspin they weren’t able to recover from. The third-year pro found his form from a distance in the Olympics and carried it over to start the campaign. He’s been cold from deep recently, just six-for-24 across his last four outings, but at his core, he has a smooth jumper that should find the bottom of the net.
New York is playing good basketball, and the only way for Orlando to extend their hot streak is by playing through Wagner. He will launch plenty of triples and have another productive evening in the world’s most famous arena.
