Get ready to return to the Galaxy Far, Far Away in a brand new series on Disney+!
Co-created by Jon Watts, who helmed the Tom Holland Spider-Man trilogy, and starring Jude Law as a mysterious stranger who it is teased is gifted with the Force, Skeleton Crew has been described as Goonies in space as the series follows four kids who, as Lucasfilm describes, “make a mysterious discovery on their seemingly safe home planet, then get lost in a strange and dangerous galaxy, crossing paths with the likes of Jod Na Nawood, the mysterious character played by Law. Finding their way home—and meeting unlikely allies and enemies—will be a greater adventure than they ever imagined.”
Disney+ is dropping episodes of Skeleton Crew at 9 p.m. Eastern Time on Tuesdays. However, the first two episodes will drop together a day early, and will be available on Monday, December 2 at 9 p.m. ET. The first two episodes are directed by Watts and David Lowery. There will be eight total episodes of the series and will be helmed by other notable directors such as the Daniels as well as Bryce Dallas Howard and Lee Isaac Chung, who have both directed episodes of The Mandalorian previously.
When is Skeleton Crew set?
Watts and writer/executive producer Christopher Ford have confirmed that Skeleton Crew is set post-Return of the Jedi, so largely the same timeline as producers Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni’s Mando-verse. There have been no hints that we’ll see any characters from the Mando-verse, but obviously it can’t be ruled out. Captain Carson Teva, played by Paul Sun-Hyung Lee, has been seen in every Mando-verse show so he seems to be the most likely candidate to have a brief cameo in this series. I could also see the obligatory cameo appearance from C-3PO and R2-D2, as well. I wouldn’t count on seeing Grogu, Mando or Luke Skywalker, however.

Watts says that growing up in the middle of nowhere, the adventures in his and his friends’ heads were the adventures they saw in the movies, like Goonies, and he says they tried to capture that for Skeleton Crew but with an added sense of danger.
In the same video above, Ford says that watching Law play against the kids there’s something special and really funny. The trailer above wants us to believe Law may be a Jedi, one of the kids even says as much, but it feels too on the nose for that to be the case. My guess is that there is more than meets the eye to Law’s character, but we’ll have to wait and see how things play out.
There’s been no indication on how long each episode could run, but perhaps the first two episodes dropping on Monday will give us a better idea on the potential lengths of future episodes.
