We are now over 20% through the NBA season, and the standings are beginning to settle. While there is plenty of time for the hot teams to cool off and the struggling teams to turn things around, the urgency has greatly increased.
There are five games on the NBA schedule today as teams continue to navigate the season. At 6:10 PM EST, the first matchup will take place between the Atlanta Hawks and the Charlotte Hornets. In the 7:10 PM EST window, the Philadelphia 76ers will be looking to get back on track and face the Detroit Pistons. Then, at 8:10 PM EST, the Milwaukee Bucks will play the Washington Wizards. In the two late-night games the Golden State Warriors will play the Phoenix Suns before the Dallas Mavericks tip-off against the Utah Jazz.

Jared McCain Over 3.5 Made Three-Pointers (+126)
Just about everything that could go wrong has gone wrong for the Sixers to start the season. The lone exception to this has been Jared McCain. The 16th overall pick has climbed into the driver’s seat for the Rookie of the Year race and thrust into the Sixers starting lineup due to injuries. Through the opening 17 games of his NBA career, McCain has averaged 16.5 points, 2.7 assists, and 2.4 rebounds. He also has connected on 37.4% of his three-point attempts while launching 6.3 long-range shots per game.
Paul George is expected to return to the floor tonight which should bring in a sigh of relief for the Sixers and McCain specifically. After producing seven consecutive games of 20+ points and making three or more three-pointers in eight consecutive games, McCain has climbed up opponent’s scouting reports and struggled as a result. Over the past two games, he has been held to just 33 total points and shot 9-34 (26.5%) from the field and 2-18 from beyond the three-point arc (11.1%). These also occurred against two of the premier defensive teams, the Rockets and Clippers, who are particularly built to contain smaller guards like McCain.
With George returning to the field and Detroit not quite the same caliber of a defensive team, expect more offensive success from McCain. The Duke product has knocked down over 3.5 three-pointers in six of the last 10 games even despite struggling over the past two. He is one of the more talented shooters in the NBA and will not have as much on his plate to generate offense with George back on the floor. Expect McCain to be maximized as a spot-up shooter and connect with over 3.5 three-pointers as the Sixers desperately try to put a game in the win column.
Malcolm Brogdon Over 18.5 Points & Assists (-105)
The Washington Wizards are set to face off with the Milwaukee Bucks tonight and enter as the only team in the NBA with a worse record than the above-mentioned Sixers. Washington still has some notable veteran talent on the roster but has not put it together yet. One name on this list is Malcolm Brogdon.
After missing the first 11 games of the season due to a torn ligament in his thumb, Brogdon made his return and has played the last six games. Across these matchups, he has averaged 23.0 minutes per game and produced 12.2 points, 2.8 assists, and 3.5 rebounds per game. While his minutes were a bit limited during his initial return, Brogdon has tallied over 18.5 combined points and assists in each of the past four games.
Milwaukee has not been imposing defensively to start this season. Currently, they rank 12th in points allowed and 17th in defensive efficiency. Washington is still adjusting to Brogdn making his return, but he is the best playmaker on the Wizards roster. Expect his level of opportunity to continue expanding as he works his way back from injury and don’t be surprised if he receives his largest workload thus far. Expect him to be heavily involved in this matchup and eclipse 18.5 points and assists for the fifth consecutive game.
Bradley Beal Over 23.5 Points, Rebounds, & Assists (-115)
The Phoenix Suns were off to an 8-1 start to the season before injuries derailed their outlook. While this is a familiar feeling surrounding the Suns, calf injuries to Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal prevented the strong start from continuing. The all-star duo returned to the court over the past few games and are looking to get the team back on track. They will continue this effort tonight when they face off with the Golden State Warriors.
On the season overall, Beal has averaged 18.2 points, 3.7 assists, and 3.2 rebounds per game. He has gone over 23.5 combined points, rebounds, and assists in seven of the 11 games he has played this season. While you can also note the point prop set at over/under 16.5 points, Beal has shown some commitment to doing the dirty work which is necessary for this team in the wider view. He has tallied as many as eight rebounds and nine assists in a game already this season.
For the Suns to reach their peak as a team, Bradley Beal must buy into doing other things to impact winning beyond just scoring. This seems to be a message that is beginning to settle in for all parties involved. Look for this effort to continue and opt to bet the combined points, rebounds, and assists in this matchup. Beal is still capable of breaking out for 24+ points on his own, which he has done three times this season, but expect some significant output as a playmaker and rebounder as he reaches over 23.5 combined points, rebounds, and assists for the eighth time this season.
Naji Marshall Over 15.5 Points (-125)
The Dallas Mavericks will face off with the Utah Jazz in the final game on tonight’s slate. Luka Doncic has been upgraded to doubtful for tonight’s matchup but the signs are still pointing toward the MVP candidate missing his fifth consecutive game. Doncic is at the epicenter of everything the Mavericks do and plays a significant role in the outlook for the role players. This is especially the case when discussing Naji Marshall.
On the season overall, Marshall has averaged 12.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.0 assists in his 24.7 minutes of play. However, in the past four games, while Doncic has been out due to injury, Marshall has played 29.6 minutes per game and produced 22.0 points and 4.7 rebounds. The 26-year-old is attempting just 8.7 shots per game on the season overall but has launched 15.0 field goal attempts, including 4.7 three-pointers, over the past four games. His scoring totals have been 24, 22, 20, and 26 across the past four games without Doncic.
The Utah Jazz rank 27th in opponent points allowed this season. Dallas will need someone to fill the 28.1 points per game they are missing from Doncic and Marshall has helped chip away at this. Expect him to remain in attack mode and maximize his opportunity in what will likely be the last matchup before Doncic returns.
