PG Tyus Jones ($5,600)
The most underrated passer in the league, Tyus Jones continues to be one of the best off-season acquisitions. In his first campaign in Phoenix, Jones is taking a backseat to the stars as a scoring option but is an elite offensive creator. He’s a calming presence as a ballhandler, a willing distributor who constantly puts his teammates in prosperous situations.
Jones can get skinny off a screen, using his frame to get low to the ground and get deep within the arc to spray the ball out to perimeter shooters ready to fire. He’s a throwback point guard who doesn’t necessarily fit the modern NBA aesthetic, but he produces when on the court.
He’s scored at least 32 fantasy points in four of his last five outings despite a shaky stroke from distance. Jones has 47 assists in that stretch and puts the ball in the basket enough to help elevate his output. Golden State’s defense has struggled the last few games, and Jones offers premium upside with this cheap of an assigned salary.
SF Kelly Oubre Jr. ($5,200)
Philadelphia is desperate for anyone to step up. The 3-14 start has been a generational disappointment, with few signs of hope on the horizon. Last year, when the club had a problem, Kelly Oubre Jr. tended to have an answer.
The journeyman wing is a three-level scorer who can finish around the cup and is streaky from beyond the arc. He averaged 20 points per game in 2022-23 with Charlotte but seamlessly transitioned to a complimentary piece with the 76ers, who could carry the load when needed. His numbers are down across the board, notably shooting just 24% on threes.
Even with his struggles from downtown, Oubre Jr. is putting it together. The shot looks smoother, and he’s chipping in enough on the glass and defense to help his DFS production. Detroit has a young, frisky roster but struggles to get stops. Oubre Jr. should have a green light going forward, as he is ready to make an impact.
