NFL Week 13 Start or Sit: Alexander Mattison or Ameer Abdullah

NFL Week 13 Start or Sit: Alexander Mattison or Ameer Abdullah

Updated:

Zamir White (quad) will miss his second game in row Friday, and Alexander Mattison ($6,200 for Showdown) has been upgraded to questionable against the Chiefs. With both White and Mattison out last Sunday vs. the Broncos, Ameer Abdullah ($5,800) got the spot start for the Raiders and posted 17.5 FPTS.

The veteran logged a whopping 89.6 percent of the snaps and had eight carries, which was 61.5 percent of Las Vegas’ running back carries. Abdullah also caught five of his six targets and ran routes on 80 percent of his team’s dropbacks. He was targeted on 13 percent of those routes.

This is a very strong role, but if Mattison presumably returns, he should be the Raiders’ primary rusher, while Abdullah should operate exclusively as a pass-catching back.

Before Week 12, Mattison was handling a team-high 53.5 percent of Las Vegas’ running back carries, including 19 red zone carries. Abdullah had only seen 10.9 percent of attempts and three red zone rushes.

If Mattison and Abdullah are both active, avoid this backfield, especially with a stout Kansas City rush defense on the other side. The Chiefs are limiting their opponents to the second-fewest yards per rush (3.6) this season.

Neither Mattison or Abdullah will be appealing options if Mattison suits up. If forced to choose one, taking a chance on Mattison. He should lead this backfield in carries and could get lucky with a touchdown.

On the DraftKings Sportsbook, the Raiders are a 13-point underdog vs. the Chiefs.
