DK Metcalf (shoulder) and Tyler Lockett (knee) didn’t practice again on Thursday ahead of the Seahawks’ Week 13 matchup with the Jets. The two Seattle wideouts would leave a major hole in the team’s aerial attack.
Jaxon Smith-Njigba ($6,300) is the team’s top option, but No. 2 would be up for grabs if both Metcalf ($6,400) and Lockett ($4,500) are sidelined. Jake Bobo is a possible value play in this scenario.
Bobo is a second-year wide receiver who has started two of Seattle’s 11 games this year. He has just 89 yards on 10 receptions this season. His best outing came in Week 4 against the Lions when he caught three passes for 30 yards.
The numbers aren’t flattering as he’s not a regular player on each drive. He played just 30 percent of offensive snaps against Detroit. Not only is he Seattle’s fourth wide receiver, but he’s behind Kenneth Walker III, Zach Charbonnet and Noah Fant in terms of offensive touches. There are too many options for Bobo to stand out even if a couple are injured.
The one silver lining is that Bobo played in 76 percent of offensive snaps during Week 8’s matchup with the Bills. Metcalf was out, but Lockett still played. The rest of the offense was healthy, too.
Bobo caught just one pass for 15 yards, but his time on the field was encouraging. If Metcalf and Lockett are both out, Bobo could see similar, if not more, snaps against the Jets. It won’t necessarily lead to increased output, however.
Aside from Seahawks’ offense, which ranks 15th in passing yards and passing touchdowns, the Jets air defense is stifling. New York allows the second least passing yards and passing touchdowns in the league.
Bobo may be an enticing value play at $3,000 salary, but there’s too many question marks. If Metcalf and Lockett are out and the Jets’ secondary has a poor showing, maybe Bobo will have a good performance.
It’s not worth starting him as there’s too much risk and not enough upside. Stay away from Bobo, even in a Seahawks vs. Jets showdown. There are better options at a similar salary.
