Monday’s defeat to New York was disappointing on a team level and an individual level for Nikola Jokic. The superstar had a quiet game by his standards, putting up 22 points, seven rebounds and seven assists, while his team got destroyed by 27 points. That likely won’t be the case tonight, as Denver enters the contest favored by 10 points. Still, you can bet that head coach Mike Malone will keep his starters on the floor regardless of the outcome after such a brutal performance.
Utah is one of the NBA’s worst defenses, giving up the fourth-most points in basketball (119.1 PPG). However, the team is also vulnerable in ways that don’t involve scoring, having given up the fourth-most assists (28.0 APG) in the league. Normally the Jazz are one of the league’s stronger rebounding squads, but without Lauri Markkanen (personal) and potentially John Collins (questionable), they’re much smaller in the front court.
Given the personnel issues facing the Jazz, this is a spot Jokic should thrive in. The last time these two teams met, the Serbian had sixteen rebounds and nine assists in just 30 minutes. That game came without Markkanen and with Collins; if neither plays tonight, it’s hard to envision anyone on Utah’s roster slowing down the Joker. Back the face of the franchise to have another stellar all-around performance.
