The New York Knicks made the biggest splash of the offseason — literally and figuratively — by trading for center Karl-Anthony Towns, and so far, it’s paid off. New York has slightly underperformed expectations this year at 10-7, but the Big Apple has quickly fallen in love with its new big man. Towns is averaging 26.3 points and a career-high 12.6 rebounds on sterling 55-47-84 shooting splits.
Tonight, the Knicks will travel to Dallas for a matchup with the Mavericks, who will be without All-NBA point guard Luka Dončić for the fourth straight game.

As New York has slowly started to find its form, winning seven of its last nine games, Towns has started to demonstrate his playmaking chops. He has notched at least three assists in six of his last seven games, and I expect that to continue against the Mavericks, who allow the ninth-most assists to opposing players. Dallas’ high-paced offense — especially without the plodding, methodical Dončić on the court — will ratchet up the number of possessions and provide Towns with more opportunities to move the ball around.

I also like KAT to make at least three shots from beyond the arc on Wednesday night, something he has done in three of his last six games. Towns has fired away as of late, attempting eight threes in a win over Phoenix and nine in a loss to Utah last week, and although he struggled against the Jazz, his 47.1% three-point shooting easily represents a career high. Knicks fans can expect KAT to enjoy a fruitful night from beyond the arc against a team that allows the sixth-most threes to opposing players.
