There were some incredible games and big upsets in Week 13 of the college football season. Here are my updated national power rankings heading into Week 14.
I will do a top-25 college football power rankings every week for the duration of the regular season. These power rankings will be based on where every team stands at the current moment, not a prediction of where these teams will be at the end of the season. The team’s ranking from the week prior will be in parenthesis next to its current ranking.
#1- Oregon (1)
After a late bye week, Oregon still remains atop the power rankings as the lone undefeated Power Four conference team. They will likely get a rematch against Ohio State in the Big Ten Championship Game if the Ducks can take down Washington this weekend.
#2- Ohio State (2)
Ohio State picked up a massive win over Indiana to remain at #2 in the power rankings. They get to avenge their multi-year losing streak to Michigan this weekend before also having a chance to avenge their only loss of the season against Oregon in the Big Ten Championship Game.
#3- Georgia (9)
Georgia once again looks like the top team in the SEC after last weekend. They are guaranteed a spot in the SEC Championship Game but will try to take down Georgia Tech on Friday to guarantee themselves a CFP berth.
#4- Texas (3)
Texas has a season-defining game ahead against Texas A&M with the winner set to face Georgia in the SEC Championship Game. A win would guarantee Texas a playoff berth while a loss would knock them out.
#5- Penn State (5)
Penn State took down Minnesota in a nail-biter on Saturday. They just have one game left, against Maryland. If they win that one, they will be in the College Football Playoff.
#6- Notre Dame (7)
Notre Dame’s season looked lost after losing to Northern Illinois but they have dominated every opponent since, including Army last weekend. They are now also just one game away from the College Football Playoff if they can defeat USC this weekend.
#7- Miami (10)
Miami dominated Wake Forest over the weekend and now controls their own destiny to the ACC Championship Game with a win over Syracuse on Saturday. They would likely face SMU in that game with a spot in the CFP on the line.
#8- Tennessee (11)
Tennessee was the biggest beneficiary of all of the losses in the SEC last weekend. They went from a team on the bubble to the playoff to clearly in if they can defeat Vanderbilt on Saturday.
#9- Indiana (4)
Indiana fans had an emotional rollercoaster of a day. After jumping out to a 7-0 lead over Ohio State, they were dominated for the rest of the game. There was some speculation the loss was bad enough to boot them from the CFP race. However, all of the other losses in the SEC have Indiana back in position to make the CFP with a win over Purdue on Saturday.
#10- Boise State (12)
Boise State will be playing in the Mountain West Championship Game and they will likely be the Group of Five representative in the playoff if they win that game. However, they do have a tricky game against Oregon State this weekend that could knock them down in the rankings and in jeopardy of falling behind Tulane.
#11- SMU (13)
SMU has been quietly lingering and making its way slowly up the rankings every week as other teams lose. They are now just a win over Cal away from making the ACC Championship Game with a chance to head to the College Football Playoff.
#12- South Carolina (16)
South Carolina is another beneficiary of the carnage of last weekend. Everything seems to be breaking in the Gamecocks’ favor ahead of their massive rivalry game against Clemson.
#13- Clemson (17)
Clemson needs some help but they are also alive on the CFP bubble. If SMU or Miami slip up they still have a chance to make the ACC Championship Game. Even as an at-large bid, they could make the CFP with a win over South Carolina and some help.
#14- Arizona State (21)
Arizona State has surged up the rankings in the last couple of weeks after taking down Kansas State and BYU. They now need to take down their rivals, Arizona, to earn a spot in the Big 12 Championship Game.
#15- Alabama (6)
Alabama suffered a horrible loss to Oklahoma, dropping them likely out of CFP contention. They still have to face Auburn in the final week of the season and need style points to keep themselves on the CFP bubble in case of losses among the bubble teams.
#16- Ole Miss (8)
Ole Miss is also on the outside looking in after their bad loss against Florida. They need a big win over Mississippi State and a lot of help to get back into those top 12 spots.
#17- Tulane (20)
Tulane has a tricky game against Memphis on Thanksgiving to keep their CFP dreams alive. If they win out and Boise State suffers a loss, they will likely get the Group of Five playoff spot.
#18- Iowa State (22)
Iowa State saved their season with a win over Utah. They now control their own destiny to the Big 12 Championship Game against Kansas State this weekend.
#19- Texas A&M (14)
The Aggies suffered a terrible loss to Auburn on Saturday but they somehow still control their own College Football Playoff fate. With a win over Texas, they will make the SEC Championship Game and then a win over Georgia would get them the automatic bid out of the SEC.
#20- UNLV (23)
UNLV got the help they needed with Colorado State losing last weekend. They now control their own path to the Mountain West Championship Game with a win over Nevada this weekend. That would give them a chance at revenge over Boise State to spoil their playoff hopes.
#21- Illinois (24)
Illinois picked up a miraculous win over Rutgers on Saturday. They could now make an excellent bowl game with a win over Northwestern this weekend.
#22- Colorado (15)
Colorado would now need a lot of help and a win over Oklahoma State to make the Big 12 Championship Game after their loss to Kansas over the weekend.
#23- Army (18)
Army fell to Notre Dame over the weekend, likely dashing their CFP hopes. However, they will face Tulane in the AAC Championship Game and have a small outside chance at a playoff berth with a win over Tulane and a Boise State loss.
#24- BYU (19)
BYU’s season tanked quickly the past two weeks with losses to Kansas and Arizona State. They now need a win over Houston and some help to make the Big 12 Championship Game.
#25- Syracuse (25)
Syracuse took down UConn over the weekend to remain at #25. However, they have the chance to change the entire national landscape with a win over Miami this weekend.
