Atlanta Hawks All-Star point guard Trae Young is questionable to play in Wednesday’s contest against the Cleveland Cavaliers with right Achilles tendinitis, the team announced Tuesday.
Young has struggled so far this season as the Hawks have limped to a 7-11 record, averaging 21.9 points — his lowest since his rookie season — and shooting just 38.5 percent from the field. Still, he is dishing out a career-high 11.9 assists per game, which leads the league, and his offensive dynamism will certainly be needed if Atlanta is to pull off a road upset against the 17-1 Cavs.
After an injury-riddled 2023-24 season in which he played just 54 out of a possible 82 games, Wednesday would mark just Young’s second missed game of the campaign. After his first missed game — a 117-116 win over the Boston Celtics on November 12 — the NBA fined the Hawks $100,000 after determining that he could have played under the league’s new player participation policy.
