J.K. Dobbins ($6,800) exited Monday’s loss to the Ravens with a knee injury and was unable to return to the contest. After further evaluation, the back has been diagnosed with a sprained MCL and Dobbins is expected to be out this Sunday vs. the Falcons, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
This season, Dobbins is averaging 4.9 YPC while handling 62.7% of the Chargers’ running back carries and a 64.1% snap rate. With Dobbins likely inactive this Sunday, Gus Edwards ($4,300) will be the next man up in this backfield.
With Dobbins available for only a season-low 30% of the snaps in Week 12, Edwards saw nine carries, which was 56.3% of Los Angeles’ running back carries for the contest. With Dobbins unavailable for the entire second half, Edwards saw three of the four running backs carries for the Chargers.
With Dobbins expected to be out this Sunday, Edwards would be in line for 10-15 carries as Los Angeles’ primary rusher. That being said, he hasn’t been efficient this season, averaging 3.3 YPC and 0.22 FPTS per snap. He has also been a complete non-factor as a receiver, with only one catch on two targets.
By no means would Edwards be a “must-play” if Dobbins sits, but he would be a viable FLEX play for season long leagues due to his expected volume and this being a plus matchup. Over their last three games, the Falcons have given up the eighth-most yards per rush in the NFL (4.6).
