Los Angeles Chargers Moneyline (+130)
Is it the Harbaugh Bowl or Har-Bowl? That’s a tougher decision than picking the winner of the Week 12 Monday Night Football matchup. The Chargers are the better team and they’re at home. Why is L.A. 2.5-point home dogs? Forget about their records. Don’t worry about brand names. Which team is playing better headed into this game? The Chargers are charged up and are charging toward the Ravens.
This is not the same old Chargers. The roster has been stacked with talent for years. The coaching staff was always a mess. It didn’t matter what big name or next big thing walked through the door. The Chargers always disappointed. Jim Harbaugh changed that culture. The Chargers’ win over the Bengals made it clear for the nonbelievers. The home team blew a 27-6 lead. The Bolts looked like the same old dolts. But then they didn’t. The Chargers held the Bengals to field-goal attempts on their final drives. The Bengals missed them. J.K. Dobbins scored a 29-yard rushing touchdown with 27 seconds remaining in the game. Suddenly, eyes were opened. The Chargers have won four in a row and five of six. They might win the AFC.
It’s not just the culture. The team is good and getting better. They’re growing into Harbaugh’s system and Harbaugh is giving them room to grow. The Chargers have a balanced offensive attack. It’s conservative but is beginning to evolve. The Chargers’ new air attack is gelling. Ladd McConkey has emerged as a leader. Quentin Johnston is no longer looking like a first-round bust. And at the helm leading the lightning is Justin Herbert. He’s becoming the star everyone expected. He’s thrown for over 270 yards in four of the last five with seven touchdowns. He’s only thrown one pick this season and rushed for 182 yards (65 rushing yards in Week 11).
One of the best quarterbacks in the NFL (102.2 QB Rating) is facing the worst pass defense in the NFL at home. What is there to think about? Why worry so much about Derrick Henry and Lamar Jackson? They don’t play defense and neither do the Ravens.
Will Dissly Receiving Yards 60+ (+180)
The Ravens’ pass defense is nonexistent. They’ve been torched for 3,130 passing yards. No other team has allowed more yards through the air. No other team has allowed more passing yards and receptions to opposing tight ends (67 receptions for 736 yards).
Will Dissly has emerged as Herbert’s steady hand. This is unsurprising in an offense under the traditional tutelage of Jim Harbaugh. The 2018 fourth-round pick has never been anything special. He had an occasional standout performance for the Seahawks but was never considered their No. 1 tight end. Like many of the new lightning that landed in Los Angeles, Dissly is striking. He has a career-high 37 receptions for 352 yards. The recent development of the Chargers’ passing game is due in part to Dissly. Over the last five games, Dissly has 24 receptions for 241 yards.
