PG/SG Malcolm Brogdon ($5,600)
When he’s healthy, Malcolm Brogdon is one of the more efficient combo guards in the league. The ninth-year pro has struggled with nagging knee injuries throughout his career. He’s only two seasons removed from winning the Sixth Man of the Year award and playing postseason minutes for a talented Boston squad. His role in the nation’s capital looks very different, shifting to a veteran leader on a Washington group that is more concerned with its draft position than winning basketball games.
He’s slowly working his way back into shape, logging just 23 minutes a night. His stroke from distance hasn’t returned to form, but he’s a career 39% shooter from beyond the arc. Brogdon has the ability to score at all three levels, darting toward the cup or stopping on a dime to rise up with his clunky but effective midrange jumper.
Brogdon gets a favorable matchup against a Chicago club 28th in defensive rating. Despite being a veteran on a franchise in the midst of a youth movement, he’s too good of a scorer not to get consistent run. The more contests he gets under his belt, the higher his pre-assigned salary will soar. Buy low now and get Brogdon at this tremendous value.
SG Stephon Castle ($5,200)
Being one of the most vital pieces on a collegiate national championship team as a freshman was bound to translate to the next level. Stephon Castle is already one of the premier defenders in the league, hounding opposing superstars with his twitchy instincts and phenomenal athleticism. The offensive arsenal is still raw, but it’s progressing rapidly.
He’s dropped at least 10 points in nine straight outings, finding his confidence from downtown. Castle is making all the winning plays as a rookie—crashing the glass, becoming a willing passer, and racking up plenty of stocks (steals and blocks). He stuffs the stat sheet, so even if the shot isn’t falling, he does enough elsewhere to patch together impressive fantasy performances. Utah allows the most fantasy points to opposing guards, which Castle should be able to exploit.
