Trae Young best prop bets for Hawks vs. Bulls

I wrote about Trae Young’s case for dark horse MVP earlier this season. Young burst out of the gates flying but has cooled off ever since. So far, he’s averaging 21.9 PPG with 11.6 APG. He’s shooting poorly so far, at just 38% FG and 34.1% from 3, but will bounce back sooner or later. The Chicago Bulls, featuring the 27th ranked defense thus far in the NBA, are on his calendar for tonight. Young has an excellent chance to snap out of his scoring funk after putting up just 12 and 7 points in his last two games, respectively.

Here are some of the best Trae Young prop bets on DraftKings Sportsbook for Friday’s matchup:

Best Trae Young Prop Bets

Points 21.5 (Over -130 / Under +100): Young’s been in a dry spell over his past five games. He’s scored more than 18 points just once in these last five with two wins. He’s mostly deferred to playmaking in those contests but I don’t see that being the case tonight. The Bulls are currently the 27th ranked defense and on average, give up 25.2 points to opposing point guards every game. They don’t have strong perimeter defenders to lock down Young and Nikola Vucevic is not equipped to handle Young’s floaters near the rim.

Assists 12.5 (Over +105 / Under -135): It almost feels wrong to go Under for the guy who just put up 19 assists two games ago against the Sacramento Kings, but I do think it’s the play here. 12.5 is a tall order, even for young, and he’s averaging “only” 11.6 APG this season. We’ve seen Young defer to his teammates when possible, but after two low-scoring efforts I expect to see him get back on track in the scoring department, conceding some of his assists in favor of putting the ball in the hoop directly. That being said, I wouldn’t blame you for taking + odds to go Over for this one, either, as Chicago is allowing an average of 10.6 assists to opposing point guards per game. Young is one of the more gifted playmakers in the league, and he could dismantle Chicago in this fashion as well.

Threes 2.5 (Over -120 / Under -110): Chicago is, you guessed it, also not doing well in limiting opponent three-point makes per game, either. I suppose having the 27th ranked defense will do that to ya. I’m confident in taking Young’s Over here: he’s attempting 8.6 threes per game this season, right around his career average of 7.4, and is converting a poor 34.1%. He takes threes at high volume and high difficulty, but at some point, they’ve got to start going in. I’m betting the Over tonight since he’ll deal with Chicago’s porous defense and lack of perimeter defense. The return of Bogdan Bogdanovic should only open up Young’s scoring opportunities even more as he spaces the floor.

PTS + AST 34.5 (Over -110 / Under -120): Surprise surprise, I’m going Over again! Sometimes you just expect good players to carve up bad defenses. Young has failed to reach 34.5 PTS + AST in his last 4 out of 5 games, which sounds bad, but you have to remember: Young’s career average in PTS + AST is 35. I think it’s reasonable to expect him to go over this mark tonight against Chicago.
