On Friday, the Detroit Pistons announced that PG Cade Cunningham will not suit up for Saturday’s game against the Orlando Magic due to a hip injury.
During the fourth quarter of Thursday’s game against the Charlotte Hornets, Cunningham freed himself from a defender near the free throw line with a nasty spin move, then went to finish with a right-hand layup. The help defender slid over and challenged the attempt, knocking Cunningham perpendicular in the air. The contact caused Cunningham to fall on his backside. He then exited the game and did not return.
After Saturday’s game, the Pistons next play on Monday, hosting the Toronto Raptors.
Cunningham has yet to miss a game this season. Jaden Ivey will likely handle point guard duties while Malik Beasley may enter the starting lineup. Marcus Sasser will likely see elevated minutes backing up both guard positions.
With Cunningham off the court this season, Ivey has seen a 6.93-percentage point bump in usage rate to 33.56%.
