Mike Evans is a model of consistency in the NFL. Since debuting in 2014, he’s totaled at least 1,000 receiving yards in each season and has remained relatively healthy throughout his 11-year career.
The veteran wideout’s production and health have both taken a slight dip so far in 2024 as he’s racked up just 335 yards through seven games. He suffered a hamstring injury during Week 7’s matchup with the Ravens and has been sidelined since. The Buccaneers have lost four straight without Evans, including the Monday Night Football match against Baltimore.
Evans has returned to practice this week and is officially questionable to play on Sunday vs. the Giants. He was a full participant on Thursday but limited during Wednesday and Friday’s practices. The team is spiraling, so it would be of great benefit if the star wide receiver was ready to play. That said, how much can the team expect from him at this rate?
Hamstring injuries are nothing to scoff at, but if Evans is in the lineup, he should be expected to be at 100 percent. When healthy, he’s one of the best wide receivers in the NFL, especially in the red zone. He’s caught six touchdowns in seven games this year after recording a league-high 13 receiving touchdowns last season.
Evans is Baker Mayfield’s favorite target, especially with Chris Godwin sidelined. There will be plenty of opportunities for Evans on Sunday, even against a strong Giants defense. They allow the fourth fewest passing yards in the NFL and 11th fewest passing touchdowns.
On the other hand, the Buccaneers have a great passing offense, ranking 10th in yards and second in touchdowns. If Evans suits up, he’ll at least be in play for one touchdown, regardless of the matchup.
