Sam LaPorta ($4,300) missed the Lions’ 52-6 win over the Jaguars last week, but the tight end appears to have a chance to return this Sunday vs. the Colts. When asked about LaPorta on Wednesday, Detroit head coach Dan Campbell told the media: “It’s questionable to above for LaPorta. It’s trending the right way.”
This season, LaPorta has taken a step backward after finishing as fantasy football’s No. 1 tight end a season ago. His target share has dropped to 13.7% and he is scoring 0.18 FPTS per snap this season after seeing a 21.7% target share and scoring 0.24 FPTS per snap last season. Still, LaPorta has found some life as of late, with at least 12 FPTS in three of his last five starts. This is also an elite spot for him if he is active.
The Lions boast the largest implied team total of Week 12 at 29.5 points on DraftKings Sportsbook and the Colts are giving up the eighth-most yards per pass (7.1). Furthermore, they have allowed the fourth-most touchdowns to tight ends (6) and they have used zone coverage at the highest rate in the league this season. LaPorta has had 82% of his receiving yards this season come against zone and the tight end could be very active in this spot if he sees no limitations Sunday.
Calling LaPorta a “must-start” is aggressive for this Lions’ offense that likes to spread the ball around, but there aren’t many better matchups for him than the Colts. If he suits up without restrictions, LaPorta will be a rock solid option for both season-long and DFS in Week 12.
