The PGA TOUR heads to St. Simons Island, Georgia this week for the final event of the year, the RSM Classic. Sea Island Resort will be the host, and measures as a 7,005-yard par 70 with Bermuda grass greens.
The field is much stronger than we have been accustomed to so far this fall, as Ludvig Aberg will be here to defend his title, along with guys like Sepp Straka, Brian Harman and Si Woo Kim.
Below I have outlined my two favorite bets for the week.
Seamus Power to win (+3000)
Power kept it rolling last week in Bermuda, posting a T24 finish. It marked the fourth time in six starts this fall where the Irishman has finished inside the top 24, which include three top-13s. He will make his way back to Sea Island, where he’s already had quit a bit of success at in is career. Power has a pair of top-five finishes across his past two starts at the RSM, and is now entering this week playing some of the best golf of his career.
Over his past four starts, Power ranks 15th in this field in SG: Tee-to-Green, eighth in SG: Putting and fourth in Total Strokes Gained. Both of his career wins have come at birdie-fests, and we should have another one in store this week. Power is simply playing too well right now to be sitting at 30/1, which is shorter than Denny McCarthy, Brian Harman and Si Woo Kim, all of whom have not played much this fall.
Sam Stevens to win (+5000)
Stevens has similar traits to last year’s RSM Classic winner Ludvig Aberg, as he’s very good off-the-tee and with the putter, but rather poor on approach. Stevens ranks ninth in this field in all three of SG: Off-the-Tee, SG: Putting and Total Strokes Gained.
Stevens was not at his best last week in Bermuda, but he still made the cut at least. Prior to that, he had been rolling, posting three straight top-23 finishes, including a T6 at the ZOZO. In two career starts at Sea Island, Stevens has yet to make a cut, but it’s good that he’s now seen the course multiple times. He’s also coming into play this year a much more refined golfer.
At 50/1, I very much like him to bounce back this week and contend in what’s a better, but still not great field.
