Watson has stepped into a much larger role since Aaron Gordon went down with an injury, and with Nikola Jokic remaining out, there’s plenty to go around on the Denver side of this game. In the six games since Gordon got hurt (including the Raptors game he was injured four minutes into), Watson is averaging 13.8 points in 32.5 minutes per game.
He’s scored at least 16 points in four of those six games, including a season-high 18 points on Friday in the first game Jokic sat out. However, Watson had his worst game since seeing an expanded role on Sunday, scoring just seven points in this very matchup against the Grizzlies. As a result, Watson’s point prop, which opened 11.5, has been bet down to 10.5.
I disagree with the move, and think there’s some value in backing Watson here. The Grizzlies play at the second-fastest pace in the league, which should mean plenty of scoring opportunities for Watson. I can chalk Sunday up to a bad game and back Watson to get back on track scoring the ball on Tuesday.
PLAY: Peyton Watson OVER 10.5 Points (-110) 1-unit
